THE TREES OF ARDERNE GARDENS: ARBOR WEEK
- Grade: 3
- 2 hours
SAVE OUR TREES
This lesson takes place in the Arderne Gardens in Claremont. It is only done in Term 3, as it links with ‘Special Days: National Arbor Week’ (1-7 Sept). It is also weather dependent. The Gardens are a Provincial Heritage Site, where a variety of plants and trees have been planted for the enjoyment of the public and for learning. We begin with the ‘Dos and Don’ts’ signage for visitors, which leads to a discussion about rights and responsibilities. Then we take a walk through the Gardens, focussing on identifying specific trees. We mention Arbor Week, the uses of trees and why we should plant more.
