THE WEATHER STATION

  • Grade: 5; 10
  • 3 hours

The weather affects every aspect of human activity.
The Centre has a Stevenson’s Screen and other weather recording equipment, which makes the observation of weather possible. The learners are introduced to a number of modern scientific weather recording instruments, and they learn how weather information is collected globally by both scientists and ordinary people.

They are then taken to the Stevenson’s Screen and use the instruments to record different weather phenomena. Their data is compared and analysed. Flowing from this is the importance of understanding weather forecasts. Using recorded forecasts, the older learners in particular are given the opportunity of applying these to their own lives.
