SAVE OUR HERITAGE
This lesson takes place at Groot Constantia, a Provincial Heritage Site. We start with a discussion of what heritage is, followed by a ‘History in a Box’ activity where the history of the Groot Constantia is unpacked. Before we enter the Homestead, we look at some of the features of Cape Dutch architecture. In the house the learners examine some of the objects displayed there and do a variety of activities to explore how people lived long ago. Lastly they are told a story about fire or theft at Groot Constantia, which leads to a discussion on heritage conservation. Cost: R 25 per learner.
